Strategy Process
Efficiency doesn’t matter if you build the wrong thing
Strategy Process
Redesign of your strategic inputs, prioritisation and results tracking. Also utilises OKRs, which can be deployed as a stand-alone improvement.
A strong strategy is the foundation for achieving value for both customers and organisations. Without this layer in place you may end up with many small low value work items being built and everyone pulling in different directions.
Innosee have the capability to create or improve the strategy layer in your organisation. This starts with the strategy sections of the Commercial Agile Framework, which are tailored to your needs.
Typical weaknesses in strategy
See if you recognise any of the following weaknesses in your own delivery method:
Problems not defined
When starting with a solution you can find the problem behind it is not well shaped or based on anecdotal evidence
Customer insights missing
The customer’s view is poorly captured or not at all
Team understanding
Your team members are unable to answer the question
“What is your strategy?”
Lack of objectives
A strategy is described as a series of work items without a clear objective
Short term strategy
No overall strategy in place, just a series of loosely related work items
Competitor analysis missing
You may be aware of competitors but have no structured process for dealing with them
Lack of measurement
The strategy may be well structured but the measurement of success is not clear
Commercial benefits missing
The strategy may be clear but puts no focus on revenue benefits (where relevant)
Trend analysis missing
Trends such as those from customers & technology are not taken into account (see PESTEL analysis)
CAF Strategy Processes
The Commercial Agile Framework contains a structure for strategy. This is a great starting point for any improvements. You may wish to customise the outputs and processes in line with your own delivery method.
Strategic Direction - This part of the framework includes strategic inputs and decision making.
Strategic Area - The strategy layer that links the strategy to the lower-level work items.
It is important to note that this strategy offering also includes Objectives and Key Results.
SaaS pricing
CAF also links strategy to SaaS pricing with the aim of maximising revenue.
Rollout
Here is the typical rollout plan for the strategy layer. Due to the impact of the changes here a senior sponsor(s) is required to work closely to achieve the change. This is typically a head of strategy or product.
