Scaled Agile

Scaling Agile is difficult

Innosee can help you avoid or fix the many anti-patterns when scaling, whether you are looking to create a new setup or need improvements. Early in my career I suffered failures and learnt from them. I used this knowledge to design new operating models and help bring other programmes back on track. There are so many things that can go wrong, I decided to write a problem solving book.

This book will also give you a great insight into how I think. If you’d like to learn more, including how I wrote it, please take a look at this page. It contains a free PDF sample and a link to Amazon.

Why scaled Agile fails

Any one of the many scaled Agile anti-patterns can derail your delivery. In some cases, it requires a small intervention, in others, such as your high-level scope being unclear, you may have to do significant work to bring this back on track.

Scaling anti patterns

Here are just a few anti-patterns:

  • Not structuring up front shaping

  • Not clear on high level scope

  • Not building in end to end slices

  • Not using live data early when replacing a system

  • Poor quality low level requirements

Set up for success

There are no easy answers to scaling with large and complex work. Like following a recipe book, it is tempting to think that there is one perfect delivery method out there. In reality, there are good practices that you should follow to increase your chance of success. An example would be using Kanban to avoid pushing too much work into the teams. The other factor that is often ignored is ensuring you have the right people in place.

First time scaling

Innosee can help you set up for success. Working with your own leadership team to create a scaled process that suits your situation:

  1. Begin with an initial discussion to understand your situation

  2. Identify a change team

  3. Work with you to propose a way of working including aspects like your overall objectives, requirements definition and dependency management. If necessary a new Target Operating Model can be defined.

  4. Run an initial scaled pilot starting with training and support for the teams

  5. Monitor the results and improve

Rescue failing delivery

Are you struggling with your scaled implementation and need help improving it? Perhaps your work is running very late, and you are tempted to go back to waterfall processes.

Struggling with scaling

Innosee can evaluate where you are and help you implement multiple interventions to get back on track:

  1. An initial discussion to understand your situation

  2. A maturity model is used to identify anti-patterns

  3. Once identified, a workshop is run with you to discuss these and the typical interventions that would be required

  4. An action plan is created to improve your set-up. We will work closely with you to ensure it is possible to achieve.

  5. The changes are started and results monitored

  6. On-going support is then available as changes embed, typically running for one or two months.
